La belle dame sans merci: A woman in a red dress leans from a horse, keeping the knight at her side in thrall. Just as bostonpup sites Edmund Leighton’s work as one of his formative images of male submission, I have to give some air time to this painting by Sir Francis Dicksee, and based off of the sexy poem by John Keats. I’ve kept a print of this painting close by for over 15 years. Enjoy. -Eileen
